Closely related to white and black pepper, this was the pepper of commerce before the little round peppercorns came around to the west. Due to the plants growing as a ground cover, rather than climbing upwards, the yields are quite a bit smaller than that of regular peppercorns. The taste is quite intense with a spicier than normal peppery taste with an added, almost fruity, component. This is one of our favorite spices to work with!
